Jim Giles (meteorologist)
Jim Giles (1939–December 20, 2006) was a longtime television meteorologist with CBS affiliate KOTV, Channel 6 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A "longtime fixture" on Oklahoma television, after his death the ''Tulsa World'' described him as "perhaps the best-known weatherman in this area".〔("Jim Giles: Longtime meteorologist a Tulsa fixture." ) ''Tulsa World'', December 23, 2006 .〕
==Career==
Giles began his career in 1961. While on duty with the United States Air Force, he served as a weather commander at Nha Trang weather station in Vietnam. Giles also served at the Severe Storms Forecast Center in Kansas City, Missouri. It was during those years that development began on Doppler weather radar. He taught meteorology and worked in broadcasting in Austin and Dallas before joining KOTV in 1981 as chief meteorologist.〔("Oklahomans Mourn The Loss Of Jim Giles" ), KOTV-DT, January 3, 2007.〕
